Case Study: Learning from an Appalachian Experience

Background

 Doddridge County, located in rural West Virginia, was significantly underperforming, ranked 53rd out of 55 counties. Under the leadership of Dr. Adam Cheeseman, substantial educational reforms were implemented to better align with both student needs and local economic demands. 

Challenge

 The county faced a traditional education model focused predominantly on college-preparatory pathways, which did not adequately serve the diverse needs of all students or address local economic challenges. 

Solution

Dr. Cheeseman spearheaded a holistic approach to education reform that emphasized the "whole child" concept and integrated workforce readiness into the school curriculum:
